Old name, new houses

South Nolan Creek roots and a subdivision boom since 2000

A railroad hamlet for most of a century, then a fast-growing suburb.

The town started as Nolan Valley, named for the creek, which takes its name from the explorer Philip Nolan. A post office opened in 1878, the Santa Fe line arrived in the early 1880s, and the name became Nolanville in 1883. Belton, down the road, had briefly used that name before 1851.

For most of the next century it stayed small, with about 200 residents and six businesses when it incorporated in 1966. The census count reached 2,150 in 2000, 4,259 in 2010 and 5,917 in 2020. Most of that growth arrived as new subdivisions rather than infill, which is why so many houses are reaching the same age at once.

First heaters in 2000s and 2010s homes are now at the end of their typical life.

That growth means most houses are 2000s and 2010s subdivision homes on slabs. Builder-grade plumbing from those years is reaching its first major repairs: the original water heater, plastic supply fittings, budget faucet cartridges and toilet fill valves.

A tank heater typically lasts about 10 to 15 years, so many first heaters here are already past due. The usual warning signs are rust at the drain valve, popping as the burner fires, or a damp ring on the garage floor under the pan.

Water and permits

WCID No. 3, 439 WSC and a city strict about permits

Two water providers, a clear permit list and the creek through town.

Water depends on the address. The city says most residents are served by Bell County WCID No. 3, while homes along the northern boundary get water from 439 Water Supply Corporation. A meter or street-pressure question goes to whichever name is on the bill.

The permit list is specific. Installing or replacing a water heater needs a permit, and so does installing or replacing a water softener. Work is inspected under the 2024 International Plumbing Code, and inspection requests filed online before 4 p.m. are handled the next business day.

Many newer homes have a pre-plumbed softener loop in the garage.

The town sits on South Nolan Creek and the Santa Fe line, with US 190 carrying traffic to Killeen in the west and Belton in the east. Fox Park on North 10th Street joined the city in 2014, and Monarch Park’s first phase plans a splash pad and pavilion.

Services

First major repairs for builder-grade plumbing

What newer homes along US 190 need as their original parts wear out.

Water Heater Repair & Replacement

Original heaters in 2000s and 2010s homes are at or past their typical lifespan. We replace gas and electric tanks, add a pan and expansion tank where missing, and pull the permit the city requires for every swap.

Water Softener Installation & Repair

The city requires a permit to install or replace a softener as well. We tie it into the garage loop many newer homes already have, add a bypass and set up a proper drain with an air gap.

Tankless Water Heaters

When the first tank fails, some owners switch to tankless to free up garage space. We size the unit, check the gas line and venting, and file the same city permit as a tank replacement.

Water Leak Detection

Plastic fittings and crimp rings from the building boom can start weeping inside walls. We use a meter test and listening equipment to find the drip before it stains a ceiling or swells baseboards.

Slab Leak Detection & Repair

Supply lines in newer slab homes run under the floor, so a leak can hide for weeks. A warm spot on tile or a constant meter gets traced before we decide on a spot repair or a reroute.

Toilet, Faucet & Fixture Repair

Builder-grade fill valves, flappers and faucet cartridges wear out around the same time. We repair or replace them in one visit and point out any shut-off valve that has stopped closing fully.

Drain & Sewer Cleaning

A kitchen line that has never been cleaned in fifteen years of cooking eventually gives up. We clear sink, tub and main-line clogs and camera the run if the backup returns.

Professional, knowledgeable, and caring attitudes. We needed a plumber to replace our water heater. Even though they were busy, they took care of us. Communicated throughout the process which was appreciated. Honest and reliable people! Highly recommend!

We are so glad we "stumbled" onto a tankless water heater for you and importantly, were able to get it installed and restore hot water to your home. Thank you for reaching out and thank you for your recommendation.

After having a new faucet installed. I noticed a small leak in one of the pipes underneath kitchen sink. Reached back out to AVP and explained the situation. They set an appointment for Lydia to check it out and fix. I was pleased with Lydia’s help in getting the leak fixed and double checking that it was good to go. My first experience using AVP. Thank you Lydia!

FAQ

Questions from owners in the newer subdivisions

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in Nolanville?

Yes. The city’s building permits page lists installing or replacing a water heater among the jobs that need one, and plumbing is inspected under the 2024 International Plumbing Code. We pull the permit, install the new unit with its relief line, pan and expansion tank, and book the inspection. Requests filed online before 4 p.m. are inspected the next business day.

Does a new water softener need a city permit too?

Yes. Installing or replacing a water softener is on the same city permit list as water heaters. The softener needs a bypass valve, a drain connection with an air gap and, in many newer homes, a tie-in to the loop pre-plumbed in the garage. We handle the permit and inspection along with the install.

Which water provider serves my house?

Most likely Bell County WCID No. 3. The city says the district serves the majority of residents, while homes along the northern boundary get water from 439 Water Supply Corporation. Your bill shows which one, and that is who to call about a meter, street pressure or a boil-water notice. Leaks and low pressure inside the property are plumbing calls.
