What we handle
Gas line installation and repair: what the work covers
Everything on the house side of the Atmos Energy meter, from a leaking connector to a new line across the yard.
Smell gas right now?
Stop reading. Get everyone out, leave switches, appliances and the garage door opener alone, and call 911 and Atmos Energy at 866.322.8667 from a safe distance. Call us once the utility has made it safe.
Natural gas reaches the house through the Atmos Energy meter. Everything downstream of it is house piping: the black iron or yellow flexible stainless pipe through the attic and walls, the valves, and the connector to each appliance.
Repairs and new installs follow the same discipline. Find the fault or plan the route, do the work, then prove the whole system tight under a pressure test before gas flows again.
- Leak tracing and repair on black iron and CSST piping, indoors and in the yard
- Pressure tests after a repair, after new work and after a leak shut-off
- New lines to ranges, dryers, water heaters and tankless units
- Yard lines to outdoor kitchens, grills, fire pits and standby generators
- Appliance shut-off valves, sediment traps and replacement of old flexible connectors

Warning signs
Is that a gas leak? Signs inside the house and in the yard
Atmos Energy warns not to rely on smell alone. A cold, medication or a strong household odour can hide it.
Treat these as a leak until proven otherwise:
- A sulphur or rotten-egg smell near an appliance, the meter or a wall
- A hiss or whistle near a gas appliance or exposed pipe
- A strip of dead or brown grass over the route of a buried line
- Bubbles rising through puddles or wet ground above a yard line
- Dust blowing from a patch of bare ground with no wind to explain it
Indoors, leaks usually start at a joint rather than in the middle of a pipe. A fitting loosens when a range is pulled out to clean, a connector kinks behind a dryer, or threads get knocked during a remodel.
Outdoors, the ground does the damage. Blackland clay east of I-35 swells and shrinks with the seasons and pulls on buried joints. West of the interstate, lines run through shallow trenches in limestone, where a sharp rock edge can wear on pipe for years.

Step by step
From the first call to relighting the pilots
Gas work follows a fixed order, because the last step, the pressure test, decides whether gas goes back on.
Make it safe
If the smell is strong, Atmos Energy comes first and we follow. If the utility has shut the meter off or the leak is small and contained, the gas stays off at the appliance valve until the fault is found.
Find the leak
We test joints with leak-detection solution and a gas detector, working back from the appliance toward the meter. That finds the actual fitting instead of replacing pipe on a guess.
Options and a quote
A loose union may only need re-making; a corroded run or an old brass connector should be replaced. You hear the options and the price before any work starts.
Repair or install
New black iron or CSST goes in, sized for every appliance on the system. Each appliance gets its own shut-off and sediment trap, and flexible stainless pipe gets the bonding clamp and wire the fuel gas code requires.
Pressure test and inspection
The piping is capped and filled with air, and the gauge has to hold with no drop. On permitted work, the city inspector sees that test before the gas is turned back on.
Restore gas and relight
Once the line passes, gas is restored, by Atmos Energy if they locked the meter. Each pilot and burner is lit and checked, and we show you where every shut-off sits.

Cost
Gas line repair in Georgetown, TX: what drives the cost
A leaking connector and a new line to a generator are both gas work, with very different scopes.
We quote on site after the leak is found or the route is walked, so the price reflects the actual job rather than a guess over the phone. These are the things that move it.
- Where the fault is: an exposed connector behind a range is quick, a joint inside a finished wall is not
- Length and route of a new line, and how many walls, floors or attic bays it crosses
- Total load: a generator or a tankless heater adds demand, so pipe from the meter may need upsizing
- Digging: a yard line needs an 811 locate first, and limestone west of I-35 trenches slowly
- Material: black iron takes more cutting and threading, while CSST runs faster but needs bonding
- Permit and inspection, which new gas lines need in most cities around here
If a repair is reasonable but the piping is old enough that more joints will follow, you get both prices. Then you can choose between fixing one fitting today and replacing the run.

Permits & code
Do I need a permit and an inspection for gas work?
For a new gas line, yes. Three sets of rules apply.
Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville all require a permit for new gas lines, and gas work also follows Atmos Energy rules. Georgetown builds to the 2021 International Fuel Gas Code, adopted with its other codes in November 2023.
Before any trench for a yard line, Texas law requires a call to 811 at least two business days ahead, so buried power, water and gas lines are marked first.
Statewide, the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners regulates plumbing, and each company works under a Responsible Master Plumber. You can check any plumber on the board’s free public search.
